How to Create a DOB NOW Account.
What is it?
DOB NOW is the New York City Department of Buildings’ online system for building filings, permits, compliance submissions, payments and related requests.
Building owners and owner representatives need an NYC.ID account to access DOB NOW. NYC.ID is an online sign-in account and is not the same as the IDNYC identification card.
Owners may need DOB NOW access to review filings, make payments, provide required attestations and view filing information associated with their email address. For official information, visit the NYC Department of Buildings DOB NOW page.
How to Create a DOB NOW Account
Step 1: Go to DOB NOW
Visit the official DOB NOW login page.
Enter the email address you want associated with your DOB NOW filings and select Login. If you do not already have an NYC.ID account, select Create Account.
Step 2: Create your NYC.ID
On the NYC.ID registration page:
Enter your email address.
Create a password.
Enter your first and last name.
Review and accept the terms.
Select Create Account.
Use an active email address that you can access. This email address will be used to identify you and associate you with filings in DOB NOW.
Step 3: Activate your NYC.ID
NYC.ID will send an activation email to the address you provided.
Open the email and select the activation link. You will not be able to access DOB NOW until the NYC.ID account has been activated.
If you do not see the email, check your spam or junk folder.
Step 4: Return to DOB NOW
After activating NYC.ID, return to the DOB NOW login page.
Enter the same email address and select Login. You may then be directed to the NYC.ID page to enter your password.
Step 5: Create your DOB NOW profile
The first time you enter DOB NOW, you may be asked to create a DOB NOW profile.
Building owners and owner representatives who do not hold a DOB-issued license should select:
No, I do not have a DOB-issued license.
Complete the requested contact information, review the information and select Submit.
Creating and activating NYC.ID alone does not complete the process. Your DOB NOW profile must also be submitted before the email address can be recognized in a DOB NOW filing.
Step 6: Continue to the DOB NOW dashboard
After the profile is submitted, select Continue to access the DOB NOW dashboard.
Your account can now be associated with DOB NOW filings using the registered email address.
DOB NOW Account FAQs
Is NYC.ID the same as IDNYC?
No. NYC.ID is an online account used to sign in to participating New York City services, including DOB NOW.
IDNYC is a government-issued municipal identification card. An IDNYC card is not required to create an NYC.ID account.
What email address should I use?
Use an active email address that you control and regularly monitor.
If you already have DOB NOW filings or an eFiling account, use the same email address associated with those records when creating NYC.ID. Using a different email address may prevent existing filings from appearing on your dashboard.
Provide this exact email address to your Licensed Master Plumber, filing representative or other licensed professional when it is needed for a filing.
What if I already have an NYC.ID account?
Start at the DOB NOW login page and enter the email address associated with your existing NYC.ID.
The system should direct you to the NYC.ID login page. Enter your password and continue to DOB NOW.
If this is your first time entering DOB NOW, you may still need to create and submit a DOB NOW profile.
What if I already had an eFiling or DOB NOW account?
Create or access NYC.ID using the same email address associated with your existing eFiling or DOB NOW account.
Using the same email address helps preserve access to filings associated with that account.
Why isn’t my email address recognized in a filing?
Creating NYC.ID does not automatically complete your DOB NOW registration.
Log in through DOB NOW, create your non-licensee DOB NOW profile and select Submit. The account is not fully registered for DOB NOW until this profile step has been completed.
Also confirm that the licensed professional entered the exact same email address in the filing.
Do I need a separate account for every building?
Generally, no. One email address and NYC.ID account can be associated with filings for multiple properties.
However, properties and filings do not automatically appear because you entered a building address in your profile. Filings are associated with the email address entered for you as a stakeholder.
Why can’t I see my property or filing?
DOB NOW associates filings with email addresses, not simply with the property address entered in your account profile.
The person preparing the filing must enter your registered email address in the appropriate owner or stakeholder section. Only filings associated with the email address used to log in will appear on your dashboard.
What if I forgot my password?
Go to the DOB NOW login page, enter your email address and select Login.
When you are directed to NYC.ID, select Forgot Password and follow the instructions sent to your email.
Can Master Plumbing create the account for me?
The property owner or authorized owner representative should create and control the account because it contains the owner’s email address, password, profile information and access to DOB filings.
Master Plumbing can use the owner’s registered email address when preparing an applicable filing and can explain what information may be needed. Passwords and activation links should not be shared.
